About Me
My name is Audrey Morgan-Bartley, creator of Audacious Designs. My journey into bridal favours began with a love of giving, creating thoughtful, handmade gifts that were treasured not just as presents, but as experiences.
Each favour is entirely handmade, from a blank sheet of card to the final finishing touches, crafted with care, attention to detail, and individuality. While designs may share a harmony, no two pieces are ever exactly the same, just like the guests they are made for. I create bridal favours for couples who value meaning, thoughtfulness, and personal expression, offering their loved ones a keepsake that becomes part of the memories of a truly special day. If you'd like to talk about creating something meaningful together I would love to hear your story, and I wish you joy and beautiful moments as you begin your wedding journey.
A Brief History of Bridal Favours
Bridal favours are one of the oldest wedding traditions, with origins dating back to Ancient Rome, where guests were given symbolic tokens representing good fortune, prosperity, and fertility for the newly married couple.
The tradition was later refined in France, where aristocratic families introduced the bonbonnière, an elegant container filled with sugared almonds or confectionery. At the time, sugar was a rare and costly luxury, making these favours a visible sign of celebration and generosity.
Traditionally, five sugared almonds were given, each representing a wish for the couple: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and long life. The bonbonnière itself became a keepsake, often crafted from fine materials such as porcelain, crystal, or silver.
Historically reserved for royalty and the upper classes, bridal favours were designed to impress and delight honoured guests. Over time, the tradition became more accessible, evolving into the personal and meaningful gestures we recognise today.
Modern bridal favours continue to honour this heritage while embracing individuality, offering couples a refined way to thank their guests and leave a lasting impression. At its heart, a bridal favour remains a timeless expression of gratitude, beautifully presented and thoughtfully given.
